Yesenia Barragan is a historian of race, slavery, and emancipation in the nineteenth-century Americas and the African diaspora. She is the author of Freedom’s Captives, which won the Wesley-Logan Prize from the American Historical Association and several other awards, and is currently an associate professor of history at Rutgers University.
