Nikolai Gogol (1809–1852) was a Russian novelist, short story writer, and playwright of Ukrainian origin who is considered a classic of Russian literature and a pioneer of satirical grotesque and realism. He is famous for works like “The Overcoat,” Dead Souls, and the play The Government Inspector. Known for his rich language and dark humor, Gogol’s writing often satirized Russian society and bureaucracy.
